If you have any antispyware such as Windows Defender running separately, you need to uninstall it before using Microsoft Security Essentials. Click Start > Run > type msconfig Select the Startup tab. OK, the computer isn't the newest (an Core 2 Duo), this isn't an excuse though.The speed penaly goes only away when you uninstall it. Start HiJackThis, but don't run a scan. After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to install it.
